English Language Development
Students in this class will use their English language skills to read non-fiction text, write summaries, arguments and justifications (which require students to make claims and suppport those claims with reasons and evidence from the non-fiction text they read). They will practice their listening and oral skills as they communicate with their partners, small groups and whole class using academic language and topic related vocabulary.

Grading Policy
Students will be graded in four different areas: Class participation, class work, article annotations and writing assignments. Each assignment is worth 10 points. All points are added and an average calculated for their grade.

Progress reports are provided every six weeks.

Teachers provide students with a current grade on their planners every two weeks.

In addition, parents and students have access to our online gradebooks.

Homework will be assigned once a week starting on week 3. It will be assigned on a Tuesday and due on a Thursday. Each homework assignment is worth 10 points. Late homework will be assigned 6 out of the 10 points.

Class Materials
It is recommended that students have three sharpened pencils for class every day, an eraser, and colored pencils or crayons.

A workbook and copies of the articles they will read in class will be provided by the school.
Absences and Late Work
When absent make sure to ask your teacher if you missed any in class assignments. If so, your teacher will provide those to you and they will be due the following day for full credit.

Any work that is turned late, will receive 6 points out of 10.

Google Classroom
We will be learning to use google classroom this year. Students will be asked to complete some homework assignments using this venue.
